How Face Shields Mitigate the Spread of COVID-19
Face shields are a viable and beneficial alternative to face masks. We offer many office protection products that you’re most likely going to need when offices reopen. We provide freestanding dividers, distance disks, sanitizer stations, and more to help make your office safer and more secure. But today, we’re going to discuss the benefits of face shields.
The Benefits of Face Shields
One benefit to face shields, as opposed to cloth face masks, is that they are indeed the more comfortable option. Many people have expressed their discomfort and how it becomes harder to breathe when wearing a cotton face mask. What’s even better is that face shields are as effective, if not more effective in deterring, the coronavirus spread. Yet another benefit of these protective shields is that you can quickly and affordably produce and distribute them. These shields should undeniably be a part of the efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
How Your Should Wear Face Shields and Other Advantages Over Face Masks
For a face shield to be the most effective, it should extend to below the chin. It should also cover the ears with no exposure to between the forehead and the shield’s headpiece. What masks this protective product better than a face mask than being able to breathe better is that these shields are reusable. All wearers have to do is clean them with soap and water or common disinfectants. This product also makes it nearly impossible for whoever wears them to touch their face. When a person wears a face mask, it isn’t uncommon for them to pull them down to make life much less challenging. With a face shield, users don’t have to do that. Anyone who wears a face shield can look forward to making expressions once again, speaking naturally, and it serves as a reminder to social distance.
Is There Any Data on the Efficacy of Face Shields?
No large-scale studies have yet to be conducted on the efficacy of these protective shields. However, a team of three physicians at the University of Iowa report in a simulation study that face shields proved to reduce immediate viral exposure by 96% when the shields were worn by a simulated health care worker within 18 inches of a cough. The study was then repeated at the currently recommended physical distancing distance of 6 feet, and face shields reduced inhaled virus by 92%.
With this in mind, employees should still practice social distancing and wash their hands consistently. It’s also not uncommon for employees, especially those in a densely populated area, to wear both masks and shields. Are you interested in purchasing any of our office protection products?
