Do You Need a Chair Mat?
The old chair mat, a staple of offices everywhere. This small plastic square may seem like a relic of old offices, but it still has plenty of advantages that could save you money in the long run. Here are a few ways this little plastic square can save you money and hassle over the long run.
Saves Your Carpet or Hardwood
Hard plastic casters on the bottom of office chairs can really wear into your floor over a while. Carpets with any type of long pile can get caught and torn out by casters, destroying your carpet pretty quickly. Hardwood floors can start to show wear after a relatively short time if not protected because of the almost constant friction of the caster on the wood. At the very least, office chairs will wear the wax finish off of hardwood floor pretty quickly.
Easy Rider
While it may seem miniscule, chair mats make rolling your chair around easier on you. This may not seem like a big deal, but over time it can help you avoid knee and back pain. When paired with an ergonomic office chair, it’ll make for one happy and healthy employee.
Stand Tall
Think just because you have a cool standing desk you don’t need a chair mat? Well, you’re wrong. Technically called a stand mat, it functions just like the insole of a shoe by padding your foot’s contact with the ground. The softer standing surface helps reduce joint fatigue and is easier on your feet.
