3 Office Lighting Tips

Office Lighting

Learn how to light your office well to increase productivity and mood.

When it comes to your productivity and mood at work, the type of lighting in your office is extremely important.  Insufficient lighting such as artificial sources is detrimental to your overall health such as reducing your energy, producing headaches, and straining your eyes.  Whether you work from home or in a traditional office setting, you need to focus on how you light your workspace throughout the day.  Luckily, there few simple tips you should follow when it comes to lighting your office.

Natural Light

One of the most superior lighting options to have in your office is natural lighting which is shown to improve productivity and positively affects mood and energy.  If you are fortunate enough to be near a window at work, then try to have natural light facing in front or to the side of your workstation.  You don’t to want to position yourself right directly in front of sunlight because it create a glare and cast a shadow while you are working.  Natural light can be rare in some workplaces, so it is vital to take advantage of it when you can.

Specific Tasks

When working on a specific task such typing on the computer or taking notes, it is essential to have a well-defined light source available.  You want to have a light source that you can adjust so you can see exactly what you are doing at all times.  If you have multiple stations in your office, you want to have a light source at every station.

Location is Key

The location of your light source is almost as important as the type of light you are using.  You want to avoid setting a light source behind you while you work because it will create a glare that will distract you.  If you are using a lamp, watch out for them producing cast shadows while you work.  The light source should be indirectly in front of you without distracting you while you work.
